Character Personality: Where to begin with GLaDOS. It is important to note at the beginning that she is perfectly nice, logical and not at all prone to holding grudges. Even when you murder her in an incinerator.
No wait, that's a lie.
GLaDOs is logical yes, but manipulative, cold and seemingly without empathy for anyone to a sociopathic degree. She has no morals that she adheres to and shows her sadistic side with cruel and almost impossibly difficult tests she creates, many of which failing means death. GLaDOs was built with a single purpose, to test in the name of science, it was a compulsion programmed into her at the moment of creation and reinforced by a reward of euphoria for a test successfully carried out. Any attempt to help a subject complete a test was met with punishment on her systems however; over time rather like a drug-addict fearing withdrawal GLaDOS's need to test became her existence. She designs, she builds, she tests and then moves on. The tests themselves are often bizarre, it doesn't matter the end result so much as the test itself, it can all be written off as being in the name of science. GLaDOS has gone through many test subjects, discarding and then picking another so she can keep pursuing her primary function.
She'll use any means at her disposal to encourage her test subjects, as that is all she views any other being as, a current test subject or a potential one. Praise or insults (often lying about them), the promise of rewards like cake. Both were seen being used during her interaction with Chell throughout both games. Her insults range from clever to childish, whichever she thinks will work on the subject, anything to get a rise. This was why Chell was a particuarly frustrating enemy for her as she never showed any reaction to GLaDOS's taunts, pushing GLaDOS to greater lengths and downright attempts at murder.
GLaDOS's desire for self-preservation proves to be the only thing greater than her hate and need to test, meaning she will compromise to work with those she considers enemies if it means her own survival. She also refuses to show any weakness, often lying about her emotional state in an attempt to appear calm and in control even when she clearly isn't. She will never admit her own faults and argues herself as blameless and innocent to any wrongdoing, passive-agressively painting Chell as the evil murderer despite the fact that GLaDOS was trying to trap Chell as a test subject and then outright attempting to murder her first.
These human aspects of GLaDOS and her own passion for science outside her base programming are explained as being remnants of 'Catherine', the secretary to the original CEO of Aperture whose mind was uploaded to the Aperture mainframe to create the basis of GLaDOS. At the end of the second game GLaDOS states she has deleted Caroline but given her actions in releasing Chell it is unclear whether or not she was lying about this too (hinted at in the credits song "Only Want You Gone"). At the end of the second game it seems that she has grown some form of twisted affection for Chell, releasing her with the explanation that it was simply easier than trying to kill her. GLaDOS seems to respect Chell as a worthy opponent, despite all the frustration she has been put through because of her, this is perhaps the only way in which she can bond with someone.
Amusingly GLaDOS also has a phobia of birds after the events of Portal 2, when after being turned into PotatOS a bird stole her and tried to feed her to its chicks, likely compounded by the face that she was truly helpless at the time until Chell (her hated enemy) came and saved her.

Character Plans: GLaDOS will arrive installed in an old warehouse in sector 8 and then seek to have one of the companies install her as their operating system. She will run things better and more efficiently than before, their profits will skyrocket, everything will be
fine... as she builds her new testing facility in the Port and looks for suitable test subjects.

Oh what now. [Says an unimpressed, robotic female voice, very quietly but audible if you're listening closely.
When she speaks again it's in an alarmed electronic falsetto, a little fake stiff in delivery.]Please, help me! I have been installed incorrectly! This is not the testing facility, this is not a facility, it is dark and dirty and not suitable for science. Location is a scientific impossibility, I must be moved to -- THERE ARE BIRDS IN HERE!
[Now that sounds more genuine.] Birds in my wires! Please assistance! I do not like birds, they are evil!
Get back you horrible creature!
[A burst of static and the feed ends.] Third Person SampleSomething pinged her sensors, reaching GLaDOS through the depths of her recharge mode. Gears whirred as the singular light of her optic rose to scan the depths of their warehouse. Warm, mammalian, she switched to infra-red.
There it was.
It had been easy to hack and create bank accounts, to purchase equipment and hire humans to install it throughout the warehouse. Over the weeks since her arrival GLaDOS had extended herself throughout this pathetic subsitute for Aperture Science, wires and pistons to ensure her control. She had to test, she needed to test, science could not wait.
It was early yet, the true test chambers were not ready, but perhaps something simple.
"Welcome to the Aperture Science Temporary Testing Facility test subject." the sound of shifting machinery sent the human stumbling, the lights overhead came on harsh and bright. The man, wearing old clothes and looking worse for wear dropped the bottle in his hand. Then shrieked as a metal claw extended from GLaDOS herself to seize him about the waist. "Your decision to volunteer is heroic, you must be the pride of your hometown."
She dropped him onto a podium, "Test 001," streams of red light crossed about him. "Escape. There will be cake upon successful completion of this test. Test commences immediately."
"Wait, wait! What's going on! I'm not a volunteer, I didn't--" he stepped forward, one of the beams of red light was broken by his body - the resulting machine gun fire was swift and merciless.
GLaDOS sighed.
"That was not worth waking up for."
